PhD programmes

Description

The primary educational objective of the PhD program in Industrial Engineering consists in preparing researchers able to independently develop academic and industrial research programs, with particular attention to the strongly interdisciplinary aspects that characterize research and today’s industrial development. Therefore, the aim is to train professionals oriented to the world of research, who can face the challenge of development in the industrial field with appropriate cultural means, with particular reference to the mechanical, energy and materials fields, in harmony with the protection of the environment and resources, with a view to sustainable development.

Although the course is oriented towards a strong interdisciplinarity, it consists of three curricula:

  • Mechanical Engineering: includes the lines of research that characterize the so-called “cold” mechanics and which refer to the disciplines of design and methods of industrial engineering, mechanics applied to machines, robotics, metallurgy, mechanical measurements and thermal, biomedical instrumentation, mechanical design and construction of machines, technologies and processing systems.
  • Energy Engineering: includes the lines of research that characterize the so-called “hot” mechanics and which refer to the disciplines of energy, environmental and industrial technical physics, fluid dynamics, industrial and mechanical plants, logistics, machinery, of energy systems.
  • Materials Engineering: includes the research lines that refer to the disciplines of biomaterials, corrosion and protection of materials, science and technology of building materials of plastic materials and composites, of technologies applied to waste treatment solid and for the control of pollution, of the experimental physics of matter.
