eXtended Reality, User Experience and Game Design

Description

The research activity focuses on the design, development, and evaluation of immersive VR/AR/MR experiences for museums, archaeological sites, cultural heritage, and tourism, with particular attention to usability, engagement, accessibility, and UX personalization. The research includes adaptive museum guides, dynamic projections in Spatial AR, gamification, and multisensory interfaces, often developed through collaborative projects with cultural institutions and local administrations. It also involves studies on gamification and the implementation of haptic feedback in virtual museum systems, where game mechanics (challenges, rewards, progression) are combined with XR technologies to increase visitors’ engagement, memory, and understanding.

In addition, methods and toolkits are developed for designing omnichannel user experiences based on behavioral, emotional, and contextual data, with applications to industrial services, smart homes, experiential tourism, and educational platforms. Game design is also adopted as a design methodology to create data-driven digital experiences. Particular emphasis is placed on translating data into actionable insights for designers, teachers, service owners, and innovation managers. In the educational domain, these results intersect with studies on digital learning and assessment, as well as with project initiatives that use challenges, serious games, and lab-based activities as levers for STEM orientation and the development of transversal skills.
